People have built them. I have had two barrels chambered for it. I think its a neat cartridge, but probably too much of a good thing if you don't chamber your own barrels. Both of mine are/were fitted to xp100's so the speeds I get will be drastically slower than full length rifles.

Mark527vARMINT, another for what it's worth comment...but you might want to consider staying with the 6mmBR necked down to .20 caliber. I've tried larger capacity cases necked down to 20 caliber with not very good results. The 20 BR seems to me to be about the practical limit. It's overbore, but not crazy overbore. My current 20 BR has 1400 rds through it...and is basically done. It still shoots 1/2"-3/4" MOA 3-shot groups at a 100 yds...but I don't consider it good for long range anymore. Most 20 BR guys on this site haven't gotten much better than a 1000-1200 rds out of their 20 BR's. If you aren't concerned about barrel life then a PPC case necked down to .17 would probably be a better choice...although my current 20 PPC is showing quite a bit of throat erosion at 600 rds...but still shoots bugholes...at this point. Just my opinion. Good luck with whatever choice you make. 410gauge

I will agree with 410gauge that the 20BR is more forgiving. Not quite sure how many rounds I've put through the 17br's I've had, but the first barrel started showing signs that
its done. Bullets started coming apart before hitting the target.

I agree with Dave and Aaron also on the 20BR or variant. If your wanting a fast 17 cal wildcat may consider a 17 mackIV
