I think the info on James Calhoon site would be very helpful on downloading 223. Lots of different powders and loads from 1000 to 3000 fps on lightweight bullets.

The .223 Remington loads James worked up years ago will work well in your 222. Reduce the loads according to the reduction in case capacity and Bob's your uncle.

If you want quieter cleaner loads stick with what James figured out for all of us years ago.

You really want to have a muzzle pressure of less than 5,000 PSI to have a quiet rifle load. A similar fast powder load in my .223Rem, .17 M4, .17FB, and .17VHA works very well, my barrels are between 16.25 and 18.75 inch and aren't louder than a 22wmr with light loads. Velocities are from subsonic to 2400fps using HS700X in my .223 Rem., with 4gr giving me about 1500 fps using a 45gr .218Bee .224"bullet. Blue Dot and Unique will give you a lot more velocity up to 3200fps in my 16.25" .223, & are your friends, however Trail Boss is your best buddy when going for a quiet mild load. As far as a clean bore is considered, that is up to you, I prefer the faster powders, however TB is so safe it is probably much preferred if you aren't seating a bullet after loading each one with powder.
