Default Young boy killed by target shooters

Hey guys, a young boy was shot and killed here in Utah this last weekend by target shooters. I have attached a brief article on the accident.

https://www.ksl.com/article/46395823...uthorities-say

Incidents like this are a reminder to follow the basic rules of gun safety - including but not limited to "know your target and what is beyond." I am reminded of LeRoy's (aka Silverfox) experience he shared with us earlier this year when he encountered a group of young hunters/shooters while out prairie dog hunting. I think that despite how experienced we all may be, it is important to review these basic rules and go over them EACH time we shoot either by our self or with the people we shoot with. I am NRA certified and am a merit badge counselor for the various Boy Scout shooting merit badges. It doesn't matter how many times we go shooting, we review these rules each time before ever starting to shoot. I have a printed copy that I keep in my range bag for personal reference. Here is the Gun Safety link:

Safe shooting to and for all of you!! Burt

These accidents are always so unfortunate, at least 2 lives are ruined and everyone else in both parties are traumatized. I hate seeing these things.

Terrible accident.
Don't sound like anything unusual though.
Hell, how many times have we fired into
a patch of trees? Especially when shooting at
game.

Tree's are SUPPOSED to stop bullets, right?

Any idea what caliber?

A tragic accident...prayers for all involved.

Some time back, I was tucked into the edge of some tall slough grass calling coyotes. There was some movement along the bank of a small lake across from me and I slowly raised my binocs only to see a deer hunter looking back towards me through his rifle scope.

Sometimes even wearing hunter orange is not enough. Way too many guys use their rifle scope for a spotting scope. Far too many times guys wearing an orange vest and coat were mistaken for a deer. So sad to see these preventable accidental shootings.

That was my intention. By the time I walked out, got to my truck and made my way around the lake, they were gone.

In retrospect, I put myself in a bad situation during deer season. Most of the Cornfield Commandos aren't to be trusted during deer season.....
