Next stop after Moraine Lake was Lake Lorraine

The hotel overlooking the Lake, some of the rooms are pretty expensive

Isn't that view spectacular, imagine waking up to that every morning

So after taking a walk and looking at the view we decided to fill in a bit of time with a drink and soak up more of that view

At these prices we only had the one

Say Kiwi: Is all this talk about more and worse gun laws, with the new Gov or whatever, going to make it really hard or bad to keep your firearms there.
From what I read in various news reports they are really trying to make a run for full blown registration and/or confiscation. So wondering how that will effect lawful firearm owners, like yourself and all ? Bill K

I don’t think they will go for full blown registration and confiscation however I believe we will see a buy back program or further restriction through licensing on some of the evil looking black model rifles such as the AR15, the M14 clones, the mini 14 etc. There is a good chance it will be announced Dec 6th.

So far in New Zealand following the attack in March the government passed law that has made all centrefire semi auto rifles, shotguns with detachable magazines, any shotgun with a magazine capacity greater than 5 rounds, any firearm (rifle) with a magazine capacity greater than 10 rounds a prohibited firearm.

The law also allows the police to by "order in council" make any other firearm or accessory prohibited.

According to the law firearms may be permanently modified to comply with the new laws, ie tube magazines permanently pinned to limit the total number of rounds in the magazine to 10 or less.

Although the law says that the police are making their own interpretation of those laws and making other items prohibited.

A couple of facts, the police wrote the first tranche of law changes and the second, the first tranche has been passed the second is in the select committee process at present.

In the second tranche they propose full registration, medical practitioners to inform on patience with mental health issues, regulation of ranges and clubs, blurring of the "fit and proper" definition so that anyone could be deemed to be not fit and proper to obtain a firearms license and also removal of rights of those that have a firearms license, ie right of search at anytime if you have a firearms license, loss of the right to silence if you have a firearms license.
Plus there are many more changes proposed in the second trance.

Now they have added to the bill with a amendment the power by "order in council" to make any pump action prohibited plus they also want to make carbine kits that turn pistols into shoulder fired carbines prohibited.

The current government coalition has a majority so if they all vote in favour of the bill then it would pass into law.
Through the submission process we are hoping to have changes made to the bill but this maybe wishful thinking, it is almost a given that full registration will come in.

One of the biggest problems is this government is allowing the police to write the laws and administer the laws and in certain circumstances rule on the law.

This is not a good situation. When agencies i.e. Police and city governments make the laws, it follows the pattern of Hitler allowing the SS to do the same, then carry out their own way of dealing with it, even to the point of shooting citizens as they did, without trial or hearings, just curb side justice in their minds. Not good at all.
