TC barrel stub 17VHA
I have a question, for a 17vha build,
Who can machine a T/C barrel stub of the simplest kind, just a 0.685 bored hole on an old 22lr pistol barrel? Precision bored no threading, just a cylindrical bore? Hutch Austin Texas |

TC barrel stub
I would contact David White ( member of site and gunsmith) he works with stubs. Bill K

How deep (long) do you need the bored part? Larry

Just past the first dovetail mounting the foregrip.

Likely too deep to bore, would probably need to be drilled and reamed to size. Larry

3.85" is too deep to bore?

Kind of a long boring bar and not a large hole, then you have the problem of the interrupted cut at the ejector notch. If you need a truly precision hole through it you would likely be better off drilling and reaming it. Larry

+1 to what Larry's direction. I had a H&R 22 Hornet reamed to 221 Fireball and that ejector notch caused issues with the reamer. Thought it was simple, it was not. I would have asked to have it precision bored, then reamed, had I known.

Thank you gentlemen. Would it be okay then to drill past the notch depth with a tapered reamer to the insert diameter, then ream the rest of the way, or would this entire excercise be easier if I just bought the ready made stub that will still need finishing?

Would a helical ground reamer help get past the extractor cut?
