I might have missed your mention of this, Kiwi, but how old is Walt?
I recall he once showed up at a shoot, out of state, wherein he forgot all his match ammo, and just had his 3-5thou neck run-out "barrel fouling" ammo. He won the match.

Walt turned 91 on the 25th of November, it was said at the WBC that Walt has probably forgotten more than most of us have learnt. Looking at the results, 24th in LV 100 and 35th in HV 100, there must be more good news to come. |

One of the great things about participating in Benchrest matches, is seeing all the new equipment.
Not sure if you would bring one of these if flying half way around the world with all your other equipment but a Canadian had this Day 3 was the HV 200, see my wife beat me again, it aint over yet. Andy Laidlaw, from Canada shot a 0.174" 200yd group. Here goes the HV grand, very happy for Helen, 1 place behind Wayne Campbell. |

Well the last day of the 2 gun competition, LV 200, quite an eventful day,
Jack Neary shot a 0.110" group on the first counting target, isn't that awesome, a New Zealander, Steve Williams shot a 0.114" in the 3rd Match and Walt shot a 0.165" group in the 4th Match. Jacks 0.110" group is a new Small group WBSF World Record. Walts group It's pretty hard to see the 0.004" difference in group size Now with the LV & HV done we have the 2 gun results, pretty stoked for Helen she finished a pretty respectable 38th and beat all the other New Zealand competitors...……..awesome That's a pretty awesome finish for Walt also 17th, just shows what experience can do. |

Ian:
Be proud mate, be proud. You taught her to shoot, remember? Helen, congrats! Glad you got into it finally. Come back and you can shoot some handguns. One of my proudest moments shooting was after I'd taught my first wife to shoot, bought her a rifle and we worked up loads she could handle (.303 Brit). Then we both fired at the same time at our deer. One shot kill, and I had to finish mine up. Keep at it is all I can say.

I didn't take any photos of the results but the last day was a 10 shot 200yd match, some people call it a "fun match" but in actual fact it's a serious match where you can shoot world small groups and aggs and someone actually wins the match......me usually at the bottom end...
Anyway everyone gets dressed up on the final evening for the closing function and prize giving, Some of the patches and medals Walt and his daughter Last edited by Kiwishooter; 01-04-2020 at 01:04 AM. |
