Kiwi:

That lake and mtns remind me of the pictures you've
sent of NZ.
Beautiful, rugged as hell.

Bet "Shorty's" about as tall as that wheel.
You're a runt remember so I'm not surprised at that part. HA!

Great pics mate, thanks for sharing.

Next stop after the rest stop was to look at a Bald Eagles Nest, I managed to get a photo with a 200mm lens on my D90 and you can just make out a chick. The driver told us that the nest is approx 3m (9 ft) across and that we were approx. 1/2 a mile from the nest.

We carried on down the road and stopped at the bottom of Medicine Lake, the bus driver told us that during winter the lake disappears and becomes the Maligne river. The Lake when present is about 7km long.

Now if you look at the above photo you will see an island with trees on it, here is a closer view...………..notice the bulge at the top of one of those trees, that is the Bald Eagles nest. The road runs along the left hand side of the lake, which is where I took that first photo.

Now here is a photo I took a few days latter with the same camera but this time a 300mm lens and 1.7x Teleconverter. This turned my 300mm lens into a 510mm lens and since I didn't have a tripod I rested on the door frame of the car.

Then after mum walks away

The next day we went for a drive and stopped to take a look at Edith Cavell glacier, well you have to take a bit of a walk from where you park the car to be able to get a good look at the glacier

And turn round for a look down the valley

There are a couple of bridges to cross on the walk

Getting closer

And even closer

It's amazing how close a camera can take you

The lake

A perspective of size, see the people down on the lake edge

I can see why, quite a selection of rifles and reloading gear/supplies.
We stopped in a small place on the way to Osoyoos and I had to go and have a look at the sports shop, I was quite surprised 1/3 of the rifles they had in the rack were left handed...…….Helen wouldn't let me buy it.
To tell the truth he only had 3 rifles in the rack...… Corlanes had a few more rifles than that, but none were left handed.

Kiwi:

Not to detract from your pictures or post any.

Back in Aug '72 I was in Berlin playing tourist on a ten day leave.

Everyone should go spend a few weeks in Berlin in their lifetime.
Wonderful city. Even greater now the walls been down quite a few years.

Comparing your range of shots of the glacier and eagle's nest with increasingly larger lenses.

I was on the walkway around the Victory Tor (Tower). Some south of the Brandenburg Gate.

Way off in the distance in East Berlin I could see a stick with a tiny ball on top. Going thru the lenses I had along until I put a 3x booster under a 400mm glass to make it 1200mm. I could see men working on top that ball. I'd be guessing at the distance, maybe 2-4 miles. On our tour bus in the East side I never got to see it up close and we couldn't take any pictures anyway.

Just to see what I'm talking about, go to Google Earth and take a look at it.
I was told it was going to be a TV, or communications antenna.

One thrill I had there was standing on the platform they'd built for Pres. Kennedy to look over the wall.

Back to the show now. Hope this didn't foul things up for your trip.

Next stop was Athabasca Falls

I saw a news report that a Black Bear got washed down Athabasca Falls recently, that would be one hell of a trip

After Athabasca Falls we were Athabasca Glacier bound, it's a nice scenic drive down the Icefield Parkway.
One of our many stops on the way and we are looking at some snow in the distance, makes you wonder how deep that snow is
