Default 2014-15 ND Fur Picture-Coyotes and Fox

Well it was a tough year for my Dad and I up here hunting dogs.

Overall the calling was hard to make work. We didn't have much snow, making the road hunters able to get everywhere, the temps were warm and there was plenty for the coyotes to eat.

We ran into a lot of poorly furred dogs as well, so we ended up throwing out just as many coyotes as we shot.

Either way it was still a blast.

All these dogs were shot with Berger bullets. The .204 35gr (204 Ruger @4100fps), the .204 55gr (20-250 @3600fps), the .224 64gr (22-6mm @3600fps) and the .172 25gr match (17 rem @4100fps)

The fox were all shot with the 17 rem, one with the 204.

The two coons fell to the 17 as well as the mini badger on the front row!

It was still a fun year, but I'll take a LOT of snow and cold for next year......I snowshoed exactly ZERO miles this year and managed to put 12 of the 30 pounds I had lost coming into last fall back on.......here's to some biking this summer eh?

Thanks for looking.

Justin

What kind of averages did you get on the coyotes and fox?

Nice haul, btw! Those reds are beautiful.

We haven't shipped them up yet.

This was taken today.

My guess is these furs will all end up selling at the next fall's auction. Maybe this summer, I can't remember if NAFA does a summer auction or not.

Hopefully the market stays up where its been. It's nice to get that fur check!

The fox are coming back up here very well, we didn't have any for years. Finally the last two years they were huntable again. They fur up very well in Eastern ND!

Nice pic, you said it was a blast and I bet a lot of hard work. Skinning and fleshing isn't much fun.

Worst part about the whole thing in my opinion is the fleshing.....I don't mind skinning so much, but good lord I hate fleshing.

One member from this Board sold some North Dakota coyote furs in March. I believe he consigned them to the NAFA auction. He told me he averaged around $110. That should pay for some of the gasoline, powder, bullets and primers.
