Default Kiwi 20BR in Carbon!

It's lockdown in New Zealand at present but with luck we will be hunting soon. Thought I would put up some pics of my new-ish 20BR. This is my second 20BR, this one is a lot lighter having a substantial amount of Carbon Fibre. The rifle itself is a Hardy Rifle Engineering "Hybrid". It features a rapid barrel change feature (the two holes on the left hand side is where the barrel attachment / tightening screws are). Many of the action parts/dimensions follow that of a Rem700, though the front end varies considerably. This has a Jewell HV trigger. Barrel length is 26 inch.

As before am running 39 Sierra Blitzkings with 28.6 gr VVN133 at ~ 3920 fps. It certainly kills well. Has already accounted for a number of magpies, plovers, and a few rabbits.

Thats a nice looker, who did the stock ? looks like its partly a McMillian A5 clone in the grip area, is the barrel one of these carbon wrapped ones ?.

How does it group ?, pretty well by the looks of it, weight ?.

If you get a chance try N150, a nice case full should give you a very low ES.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Aaron. With bolt but without bipod and suppressor it weighs 4.4kg (9.7lb). Have only just weighed it; very surprised how light it is. Great carry gun which is what this is intended for. My main varmint hunting area is quite hilly, so good to over-watch shoot!

Hi Alycidon, The stock is made by Hi Tech Composite Stocks.
https://www.facebook.com/hitecltd/
This is very light, indeed the butt stock sounds relatively hollow; but balance is great. At 4.4kg it's a super high rifle. The barrel is made by TrueFlite NZ, but the carbon-wrap was done by another company (possibly Hi Tech). The whole thing is very much a NZ only build (except for the scope and trigger).

It shoots under one-inch groups at 200 yards (my zero distance for a varmint gun given I expect most shooting to be between 200 - 400 yards). Haven't spent much time shooting groups have simply taken it out shooting; it seldom misses anything! 20BR's are just too accurate!

Thanks for the tip on VV N150. Am still getting through my original 1kg of V133; it has a date of 12.10.2003 on it but it still goes well. Will try V150 next.

Default Sweet rig!

Have taken a few pd’s at 500 yards+ with that bullet out of my 20BR.
That sure is a nice setup for hunting vermin
