IMO, the problem was availability of brass and possibly ammo for a while. People don't like buying guns that they can't shoot if they can't find or make ammo for. I wouldn't be afraid to buy another one to add to the herd, but I have a fairly large pile of ammo and brass for the 17 Rem.

I just bought one too. Don't even have dies or brass yet. Oh well, always a day late and a dollar short.

Brownell's has it in stock but not cheap.
Second listing down.

Cmatera I have two sets of .17 rem dies and I think 908 fully prepped and primed brass if you want it

Default 17 Remington is dead.

How hard would it be to just form 17 Remington from .223 brass ? Slightly shorter and the shoulder set back is the difference, right ? Bill K

Have been doing a little web checking and High Plains Brass has 17 Remington formed from 223/5.56 sized and ready to reload. Prices are decent also.

Default 17 Rem brass

Why not use Nosler 204 Ruger and end up with good quality full length 17 Rem brass?

Default Have a 700 Varmint Special/SS in 17Rem....

I am happy I got it from Zander’s many years ago.I enjoyed an early 700 sporter and even had a Sako in 17Rem many years ago the Remington sporter was shot out and slow but it taught me a few things about 17s it went to Greg and turned into a 20 wildcat I use for coyotes currently.I will always have a 17Rem in the safe, like Rick W I wondered why Remington didn’t legitimize the 17-223 or why Ruger didn’t do the same with the 20 Tactical,I think it’s all about speed and bragging rights. As long as we can still get brass or make it from another case I’m happy

If its discussed on this site there usually isn't factory ammo available, that's the fun of it for me. I dont like seasonal runs of brass that make it tough to load my own. But these small niche markets are closing up fast. Soon the only factory offerings will be only what can be shot out of an ar15. Sad

My Sako has seen many rounds. It will need a visit to Gre-tan rifles eventually.
Going off topic but I’m curious how you like the .17 cal lothar Walther barrel? I’ve gone through the ordering process recently and don’t see how many grooves they are and on the US site it didn’t give the option for match treatment as the European site did. I was wondering if the match treatment involved polishing g the bore?

I'm betting that after you wear the new barrel out, there will still be folks who will chamber another new 17 Rem barrel for ya'. And so on...........
