Default Blind Hog finds acorn

Normally these don't stick around long enough to get a shot. Used my 222 Sako loaded with Calhoon's 42gr double hollow point.

Johno
That's all I used in my 221FB and it was very accurate and effective.

Jim,
When I got my first CZ527 American 221 Fireball about 15 years ago, I loaded some Calhoon 42gr DHPs and proceeded down to the Buenas Aires NWR west of Tucson for it's initial outing. Called a mature female in on 1st stand and shot her broadside at 70 yards. Inspection revealed no entry hole, BUT an exit hole through the far shoulder that you could put your fist into!!! If you didn't know it you'd have sworn that she had a bad case of 7MM Magnum OVERKILL!!! This bullet is accurate and effective, but NOT FUR FRIENDLY! About 2 hours later I shot #2 for the day (a head shot). Not quite as messy, but after that day I changed my load to 50gr Hornady Spire Points that I had used successfully in the past in a 223 which did the job without the carnage. Just my opinion based on experience. Probably still have some of those bullets laying around somewhere.

I have used the Calhoon 42’s for my fireball. They work great! 18.8 gr of 1680 groups really small and works great on critters, for me anyway. Also, I don’t keep fur, so that isn’t a consideration.

What are coyote pelts going for now. I've heard mixed reports but most guys are saying they aren't worth the money to skin. If that's the case throw whatever you can at them regardless of the size of hole. My brother is using his only rifle a 308 next weekend. To each his own.
