SAKO Rebarrel to 20 VT with REM. reamer
I have a Sako L461 rifle I would like to rebarrel with 20 VT with a Pac Nor barrel. The reamer from Pac Nor is .232 neck----.050 freebore----.374 at the .200 line. I would like to use Lapua or Nosler brass. I have a neck turner. What problems will I encounter?

I can not foresee any problems. My 20 VT is the same neck size and I use various brands of brass, even some formed from 5.56 and it all works. Some may need trimming, of course, and neck turning to clean it up. Bill K

I had two Ruger #3's done into 20 VT at Pac-nor recently, I sent them my own 20 VT reamer I had made for Lapua brass with a no turn neck. The nice folks at JGS reamers and some forum members helped me with the design.
Do some reading and you will find out that the original 20VT reamer is set up for a tight fit with the Remington brass, The Lapua brass is made larger to fit the generous chambers on factory rifles, maximum SAMMI spec. I was having issues forming the Lapua brass with an off the shelf die as it was leaving a ridge at the base of the case. Of course that led me to have Whidden make a custom sizing die. For some, sticking to the Remington brass may be the best option. If you would like to see the reamer print I used your welcome to PM me and I will send it to you. Zero freebore, .2345 neck, .3770 at the .2000 line of the base John. Last edited by JohnJ65; 07-10-2019 at 11:43 PM. Reason: more info. |

Sako 20 vt
I had a Sako A1 that was rebarreled to 20vt. Believe the neck was .234. I used Rem 221 fb brass and it worked great.
