I own a couple of older ones, and I'd definitely buy a new one or two, etc., if they reappeared on the market. But that would likely be it for new Savages at my house.

After about a century of making 99's, I heard that waining sales & very high production cost caused Savage to drop the model. Most hunters don't want to pony-up a grand for a deluxe lever gun.

I read an interview years ago with then CEO Ron (can't remember last name). They looked into bringing back the 99 and figured it be at least $2K

I have several 99s and love them. My understanding is Savage stopped making them when the last guy who could fit and assemble them retired. Evidently an art not a science.
