Default Hey Dougie, how's that truck rebuild going?

We're interested in it.

Hope it's done and no kinks.

GM Performance, "Crate Engine and Tranny" are in as well as a number of other mechanical upgrades done. New wheels and tires are on. New front end, power steering, radiator, air conditioning and suspension is finished. It is currently at the body shop being redone in factory original colors and new interior.
I had a surprise when I called my auto insurance company and asked about insuring it to what I've got in it as opposed to typical book price (as in nothing!). She researched it and called back shortly to inform me I'll be saving $26.00 a year on our combined auto insurance. Seems that because I'm doing everything factory and the truck is 30 years old we get a discount because even though the truck is being insured for $21,000.00 it is old enough and I drive it so little it will be insured as an antique and there is a discount on that. Shocked heck out outta me. Gotta send her some pictures and copies of paperwork etc.
Oghtta be done about Monday or Tuesday after next. Curious to see if Nancy or I get the first gopher out of our side of the truck. Hay is picked up so the second gopher season is about to be starting if it don't get too hot to run em under.
Probably more fun when I use to turn the wrenches myself but those days are over through no choice of my own so having some of the top guys around do the work for ya while you go fishing ain't to bad either.
Melons coming ripe down around Rocky Ford soon? Fond memories of those days as a kid.

Doug I look forward to your project.
Talking about turning wrenches, had a lawn mower project about like your truck project. I keep telling myself I am going to buy a new rider but this one just won’t die. Had steering issues, worn out bushing gears were ok. Took the shaft out, the damn 30” shaft had to come out the bottom. Fired the lathe up and made some nylon bushings. Back together and acts like it has power steering.
I imagine the deck will give up an I will get a new mower.
All of those tight hard to get to places sure tore up my fore arms and backs of my hands. My hide is like tissue paper. Asked the doctor about it and nothing can fix it. If I knock the hide off a bit bleeds like I lost a limb.

Look forward to the “new” ride.
Jeff

I bought "Permanent" plates for it a fair number of years back so plates are paid forever, I rather like that part too . We have no sales tax in Montana so it's all based on property tax. I'd guess a new top line 4X4 pickup would have plates and registration that'd run $700.00ish a year for the first few years dropping very slowly till it finally got low enough you could buy a somewhat expensive permanent set after 11 years. No antique plate though but it's a good idea.

Many states have 'antique' registration/plate programs, as soon as it hits 20-25 years old you can register/plate it once and save some money.

Sounds real good Doug. would be nice if you'd take
pictures to share of the rebuild.

Melon's are close I think. Only 60 miles down there,
haven't been since '04 on the way back from Fla though.

Nextdoor neighbor has three oldies now. Moved in with a .
'55 Chevy p/up. just sits, antique tags. (you should see the G/F though!!)

The Street Rod Nat'l's come here in June every year.
He bought another '55 at the show, it looks just like the other one
except wheels.

A few days later he drove up in a '54 Chrysler 4dr. Nice car,
drivers window gone, trunk lid peeled to the iron. Like new
tires, white walls even. Writing on the window:

"Local Pueblo two owner, original title, $4000." Haven't
talked to him to learn if he paid that or less, or what the
other truck is for sure. Believe he got that at the show too.

"this '55, is the first year of exposed driveshaft and full wrap
windshield". About Sept he bought a new Harley Sportster he
and g/f ride on weekends. Heavy equipment operator.
Damn, I sure never made bucks for such toys when I was running
heavy iron.
