I never eject my brass onto the ground, I always try to only lightly eject the spent round in order to recover it from the action or top of the shooting table, so shooting repeaters as single shots is no handicap. I drop the loaded round onto the top of the mag or the single shot insert just after I capture the empty, and it is all in the same motion. I also shoot right hand bolts for centerfire gophers, I am left handed, as using my right hand to work the bolt, capture and load disturbs the sight picture and gun far less. The rifles are rested on a front and rear rest so the right hand isn't doing anything anyhow. A couple of my right handed buddies found the system so slick they have gone to using left hand bolts for the same reason.
The 22 RF and 17 HMR are left handed repeaters with two magazines as I don't care about the brass in them. I do have two single shot LH target 22s that I use for gopher shooting and I don't find them any slower for multiple shoots than magazine fed. So not a real clear answer but I don't see any real drawback to single shots.
