I like the vortex, I don't think you will regret buying one and they cost less. The glass on the viper is great too.
I don't know if you have considered sightron or not but, they are good quality. A lot of people are using them for 1000 yard f-class. just a another thought. |

+1 on the Sightron. Check out the 6-24 SII Big Sky version. I have on a varmint gun & it has good clarity and contrast at the highest power.

That's what my friend said until he had to replace it four times in 15 months under warranty.

Another vote for Sightron. I really like the SIII in 6x24 LRMOA. The floating dot really suits my old eyeball.

I guess it depends on the target. Is it paper or something with a heart beat?
I really like my Leupold Mk4 with TMR reticle for critters; no intersection of the cross hair to obscure things at really long range. TBH, I haven't spent much time on a Vortex, but have looked through them. I think (MHO) that their claim to fame is an affordable first focal plane scope, not so much the glass per se or the reticle. Horses for courses I suppose... SWFA's SS line of scopes are pretty hard to beat as well (IMHO)...

Long Range Scopes
I have 3 nightforce in 12x42, 1 Leupold 6.5-20 EFR with the TMR reticle, two Zeiss Conquests with mil-dot and a Z800 reticle, and three Vortex PST with EBR-1 Mil Rad reticles. Like them all, but really like the TMR reticle as it is very fine and does not block the prairie dog out and has lots of hash marks for holdover. Would really like to try the Vortex ffp PST MOA reticle, but worry about the reticle being too thick at 24 power.
Have not tried the Sightron III, as I have not found a reticle that I like. For clarity and power of the above scopes, I prefer the NF with the NXS hashmark reticle. For brightness and clarity (not contrast or color) the Zeiss conquest is excellent. The Conquest is a 1" tube and highly rated by 6mmbr.com. Weight may be a factor for a carry gun as the NF weighs 35 oz. Chuck |
