Default BRNO fox 222

Local shop has a BRNO Fox 222 that I can get for $500. Unfired in the box with paperwork. New old stock but looks like the stock may have been around some water at the butt. Butt plate screws have rust. Looks like maybe the carpet got wet and the box soaked up some water. Rest of the gun looks nice, butterknife bolt handle, sights, some older cheap scope. Any info would be appreciated.

I would buy it and then ask questions on what you have after its in your possession......don't know the value but heard good things about them

Default Had a hornet, maybe a totally different animal

But you may want to slug bbl. Mine was a thou. undersize.

It had gone to Africa for pot or coup de Grace duties.
It was owned by H. M. Pope's son, Charlie. Sure wish I had it back......

Default fox 222

All the ones I've seen in decent shape have been 1000.00+, all you can hope for is that they don't come to their senses.

Default Early ones are OK...

Very early production Brno Fox .222's are pretty good, produced in the early 1960's, just after the classic ZKW465 22 Hornet...

All ZKW465's have .223" bores, as do the early Brno Foxes... not sure when they changed to .224" bores, quite possibly with the early CZ527?

They have a barrel mounted front swivel and a ZKW465 style more open breech, round bolt knob. More classic stock lines. Levels of fit and finish were similar to the ZKW465...

Later ones from the mid-1970's onwards had a more closed-in breech, poorly finished investment cast receiver, thin blade type bolt handle, and a poor quality Monte Carlo stock cheekpiece stock.

These are rather nasty and make great tomato stakes

So, you are saying that CZ makes barrels that are not to SAAMI or CIP standards for their 22 Hornets, but you are "not sure" about the other 22 cal chamberings. If they are all .223", then CZ is the only manufacturer in the world that makes all their 22 barrels not to industry standards. If just the 22 Hornet is .223" then CZ goes to the unnecessary expense of making .223" & .224" barrels. Can you explain why they would do either, especially since all commercially available 22 bullets & cartridges are .224"? The 22 Hornet, at least here in the US, has been .224" since WWII ended. Could you please provide some evidence or documentation to support your contention that CZ never changed to .224" bores in their Hornets. Just curious as to how you know all this about CZ barrels.

Do you have a CZ 527 22 hornet?, if so slug it you will find its .223"

I can't speak of the other 22 cals I said, I don't have one. Perhaps shoot an email to CZ USA, we can't do that down here as they don't accept emails from overseas.

Not sure if Brian Welsh is still the sales manager at CZ USA but according an email from a member on anther forum " CZ 527 barrels in 22 hornet are .223"

I see that Sierra still makes 223 projectiles for Hornets.

Unhappy .223
Just got an e-mail back from Brian Welch in Sales at CZ USA. His answer was that the CZ 527 Hornet bore is .223. So now we know. So much for the Hornet. jj
