Wow! Lots to think about before making any decisions. Is the Oehler 35P light sensitive?

C.E.D millennium
use one with infrared lights built in, works great no matter what the light, even in the dark. Have shot my ari rifle in total darkness and it never missed a beat.
Oheler are like tanks and work for years, had a oheler 33 i used for decades. only time it didn't read was when the sun was low in the sky and you got a glint off the bullet that blinded the eye. if i am not shooting for groups i have a magneto speed that work pretty well.

Chronograph
My experience started shooting over a couple of friends Chrony brand units. This was around 20 years ago. When i decided to purchase my own i went to the Competition Electronics because the Chrony were undependable, erratic . Oehler is / was king for many years. Great product. It's hard for me to imagine how many shooters actually need that level of equipment. Smoking Joe who shot @ the highest level of competition,YES. I get it.

Still using a 35 year old Oehler 33, newer cronos are easier to set up but that end any advantage to newer. 4000 fps plus isn't an issue either with this ancient piece of equipment.

I am using this one which is inexpensive and would read 17 caliber bullets of the 17 Remington I used to own. It had no problem reading velocities over 4200 fps for me.

Well, this one subject I've got to chime in on.
chronys: The only reason they put the works in front of the muzzle and steel wires to hold things up is: So they can sell more when you shoot 'em up. Hit the wires and it'll scrambled the works. Even unburnt BP will penetrate the face. CED: I have two of 'em, with all the goodies: batteries, bags, infrared etc. cost $500. Yeah, I have TWO of 'em! Trouble from the start and three times since, makes FOUR times a $40 sensor has gone bad. First one they replaced n/c. Since I haven't been able to get to the range in 8 years to use 'em. I'm sure the battery packs are dead by now. Anyone want a bargain? Two fer the price of one at cost. I haven't used any others.

Magnetospeed....
Lighting condition is not a factor. Works perfectly even shooting off a bench from inside a windowless shooting shed with only the front door open. Works consistently with .17 cal. bullets. |

The only drawback to the Magnetospeed is it can act like a barrel tuner at times, with big diameter stiff tubes it doesn't have much effect, but it can.

Good thread... I’ve had a couple cheap chrony’s (a green and a blue) for many years now. They have served me well, still working but in bad shape (screen falling apart on one of them)
Looks like I need to shop for a Oehler 35P now

What is the draw back ? It is made to check velocity, not really for shooting groups. Works just fine, for what it was intended too do.
