Default 19 Calhoon & 20AH Loads

I'm still kicking around the idea of a 20 AH, I'm almost there, I only need a few small items, like a host gun a barrel, reamer & dies, the small stuff. I started looking at loads and comparing the 20AH with the 19 Calhoon, when I had a 19 Calhoon on a CZ 527 the loading data with a 32gr bullet and 13.5 grs of AA1680. If I look at loads for the 20AH in the "TERRIFIC TWENTIES" the loads with AA1680 & 33gr bullet start at 13.5grs and go up to 16.2 with only small velocity advantage over the 19 Calhoon with 13.5 grs of AA1680. Something doesn't add up, are any users of a 19 Calhoon using over 13.5 grs of AA1680 with a 32gr bullet?

Bob I have a Calhoon 19-223 and his reloading data is very close to the results you get. I think most people will say that Calhoon reloading data is very realistic and accurate. While most people will say Todds' top loads are unrealistic to achieve. I also noticed my resulting velocities in my 20VT and 20 Ackley Bee do not come close in mirroring Todds' results. In my 20VT 18.6 grains of H4198 is giving me 3750 fps with a 32g V-Max while Todds' 19.8g of H4198 is giving 3776 fps. In my 20 Ackley Bee 15.8g of 1680 and a 32g V-max is resulting in 3500 fps while in Todds' book 15.8g of 1680 is only resulting in 3381 fps. We know that there will be differences in results with each rifle with different components used. I believe the results you would achieve in a 20AH would be closer to Calhoons 19AH than to Todds' 20AH with a 32 grain bullet. I too like you like the idea of the 20AH particularly for groundhogs with heavier bullets. Just comparing it to my 20AB which uses 15.8g of 1680 and a 32g V-Max to achieve 3500 fps and comparing it to the 20AH possible achieving 3340 fps with only 13.5g of 1680. I like efficient cartridges and low noise for use down here the more populated area of Maryland. Keep use posted on your progress. Bill

Thank you for the response, I always felt the Calhoon was very realistic with his loads. Bob

I think I am going to go with either a CZ 527 or a Browning Micro Hunter. Do you happen to know what reamer was used to make your 20 AH? I am going to call Pacific next week and talk to Dave about the reamer print in the "TERRIFIC TWENTIES" book, I want a NO TURN chamber, is that what you have? thanks Bob

527 is a great choice because of trigger quality alone, kevin weaver has the reamer that my 527 was chambered with, all i shoot is 32gr vmax and it is easy to touch the lands with them,he did a good job on mine.just run em thru the fl sizer and load and shoot,no hassle and no split cases. and no turning necks

If I supply the rifle, and Weaver supplies the barrel plus chambering and fitting thats about $700.00, correct?
