6mm-30 short
Ever considered the 6mm/225 Win? I checked C-H 4d Tool and Die website, and they list dies for the 6mm/30-30, 6mm-30-30 AI, and the 6mm/225 Win. Their prices are cheaper than what I saw on Midway.

6mm / 30-30 Short
How about the old 6mm Donaldson Wasp? Dies and reamers should be fairly readily available as the cartridge was fairly popular at one time. Classic cartridge for a classic rifle! Vic

30-30 case wildcats.....
6mm Seely Masker Wasp:
http://stevespages.com/jpg/cd6smwasp.jpg Seely Masker used 30 American brass to make 219 Donaldson Wasp cases and then necked them up for his 6mm Seely Masker Wasp. __________________________________________________ _____________ 25-35 Tomcat by Francis Sell: http://stevespages.com/jpg/cd2535tomcat.jpg Years ago, Dave Tooley (Tooley Custom Rifles) stocked Federal 30 American brass - 30/30 with small flash hole. It has been out of production for many years, but worth picking up if you run into it. |

PM me your address and I'll get them in the mail Saturday or Monday. No - I don't have dies. .421/2" is the head size for .30/30, usually vs. .469/70" for the BR case.

6mm Wasp is what those cases sound like to me
Might be able to use PPC dies to resize them. Not completely sure though. Look up a reamer print or some case dimensions. I think like said earlier, EA Brown chambered for it.

Daryl,
PM sent....Thanks! I have lots of 225 brass. I like the idea of another "classic" cartridge. Would like to find a piece of 6mmDW brass to look at. Thanks for the idea! |

I also have a 44 1/2 in 6mm-30/30 Improved. I have not cast the chamber but when I was making brass I had to trim to 1.930 in order to close the action so I have settled on 1.920 length. Brass loss was heavy when using 25-35 but I have had no problems when I switched over to 30-30 Hornady brass. I size it in a 250 Savage die first then a Hornady 6mm neck sizer. I turn the necks to clean them up but am not sure it is necessary. I have a 12 twist so have stayed with 85 grain bullets so far as this is going to be my deer rifle in the future. I am using load data from the 6mm/225 as that is virtually what it is from taking case measurements. I am still working up loads but IMR 4895 sure looks promising so far with the 85 grain Speer. Not being a standard wildcat God knows what reamer was used and I really don't know the best solution to a better sizing die. I use a Vickerman die for seating. Gotta love the 44 1/2's! My current project is trying to rechamber my 044 1/2 in 218 bee to a 22 Super Jet or something. Tom
