SHILEN Chrome Moly 17Cal
I'm looking at a new SHILEN Chrome Moly barrel advertised for sale privately and wondering how it rates compared to PacNor or Lilja
Any trouble with accuracy ? The barrel is a new chrome moly 1:10 x 17 Cal |

it depends on whether ed Shelin made it or the new owners. i have a ss 17 made 25-30 years ago that is a tack driver.
you might as how the barrels made by the new managment are working for people.

Does anyone know what date the new ownership at SHILEN took over ?
I'm sure it was a slow gradual process.. and I would expect quality control would be more intense with a new production staff. |

I have a L461 in 17 Remington that has a CrMo Shilen 1:10 twist barrel. The 1:10 isn't fast enough to use any of the 30gr VMax bullets. 25HP shooots great <0.5MOA, and the 25VMAX shoots about 0.7MOA. When I torch this barrel, I will make sure it gets a 1:9 twist barrel. I bought this rifle in 2006.

I've been shooting a factory CZ527 for the last 10 - 12 years.
I'm not sure of the round count but would guess 350-400 x It's never done any large volume shooting. I've only shot the discontinued BERGER 25gr. TARGET bullet over H4895 and it is soooo very accurate. I'm sitting on about 5000 bullets which will last me past my lifetime The last 3 shots it fired resulted in 3 dead coyotes. Value of coyote hides has tanked so it's not going to get a lot of use. |
