Reaming a 22 K-hornet short.
Hi
I have aquirred a weihrauch hw66 production in 22 hornet with a 1-16 twist barrel. I like the idea of the 22 mink and taranah hornet. And wondered is it possible to use a K-hornet reamer, and only ream for a case lenght of 1.25? And cut of the dies accordingly? Kindest from Norway |

I think it's possible, but it will depend on the reamer and the brass manufacturer.
US manufactured brass has a slightly smaller diameter forward of the rim than some European manufactured brass. R-P 22 Hornet brass measures .001" smaller than RWS forward of the rim and WW is .002" smaller based on what I just measured. John |

As John explained, the hornet chambers vary. Might be best to make a cast of your chamber, have the measurements and then contact someone i.e. PT&G and see about a reamer with those measurements and then go ahead and short ream, as you want. Just a thought.

Psst... Bill.
He's in Norway. If he was in the US I'd offer him use of my 22 KH reamer. |

Hi guys
I am going to ask my gunsmith to measure his reamer, and see if we ream it in to about 1.25" case length, what is the measurement on the "base" in. Norway we have easy access to rws and ppu "prvi" brass for 22 hornet. My goal is to be able to magfeed 40gr wmax and maybe some 50-55gr bullets. The weihrauch mag only gakes max 45mm (1,77" coal). Ofc going to try this with the original 1-16 barrel first, if this works the plan is to try a ss 1-8 or 1-7 barrel. Hopefully be able to shoot subsonic and some v-max loads. |

Sounds like a good plan. Keep us posted on the progress and results. And before I do forget, welcome to the group on this site/forum.

Thanks Bill, I will keep you informed. Have any of you played with subs in the hornet case? Here in Norway we can buy suppressors over the counter. So thinking maybe a 1-7 twist about 18" long. My only concern is accuracy with lighter bullets.

I shot 40 gr. bullets in my 1/8 twist rifle without issue.
I have several suppressed rifles, and the bullets have to subsonic for the desired results. It's hard to believe for instance that the muzzle report of a 22LR HV round is less than the supersonic crack of the projectile. A suppressed 1/7 twist shortened 22KH project sounds like a interesting project. |

Hi Johnny
The idea atleast is to shot 70-80gr eldm, smk bullets subsonic, and try the 40gr vmax and 52gr mk at "full throttle" |
