WTB 22 Lovell R2 brass and dies
Against all logic, I bought a rifle in this chambering and now I get to start my search for reloading components. Let me know what you have. Thanks.

Tack you picked a good one to find brass for. Best hope is for "good" once fired G&H 22-3000 or the better, the Jamison 25-20 SS. Jamison was in business when I did my 17 Lovell. I got 200 25-20 SS for a buck each thinking I'd get more later. Of course they went belly up and I didn't get any more. Good luck on your search. Check over on ASSRA, every now and then there's some. Back in the mid 80's I was at a gun auction. They held up a bag with 60 pcs of new G&H 22-3000, no one knew what it was so they knocked it off to me for 1.00 , you get lucky sometimes. The R2 is a good classic eastern groundhog cartridge, I always wanted one myself. Good luck

If you find a size die you can use either, Vickerman, or maybe one of the derivatives like RCBS Competition seating die. Vickerman has the shell holders and the 22 seating die is fairly common. The RCBS uses an extended shell holder is I don’t know if there is one that will work. I do know the Vickerman is what the two guys I know who have an 2R and a 170 Landis Woodsman use.

I can get a set of dies, new, but it's a little over $200. I guess I could keep an eye for 25-20 SS brass as well, and just size it.

About 15years ago I bought a Winchester Highwall barrel chambered in the 22 Lovell and kept my eye out for loading dies and brass for a long time. I never found a set of used dies for sale but did come across some brass on the auction site at pretty eye watering prices so passed on them.
It's an iconic cartridge but seems dies and brass are pretty rare. Good luck with your search...........Kiwi |

Tack, in your search don't past up on early Pacific dies. That's what mine are and they are every bit as good as any early RCBS dies. Mine are pre chrome dies. I have wrote down in my note book different dimensions I've found for the R2. There's several versions called the same. You might want to make a cast of your chamber.

Pacific dies are the precursors to Hornady dies. Hornady bought out Pacific. My 30-30 dies are an old Pacific chrome set. Work great.

I've bought a few guns I later just had to use as parts for something else. Not saying this is the case, but it can always give hope for a dream that has become an otherwise incipient pile of rust. The search for brass and dies is like trying to find just one ... more ... life for a favorite old cat that has outlived his original 9 lives. It can always be mounted on the wall and a legend can be built around it.
