17 cal. 20 or 25 V-Max for 17 HH Handgun?
Building a Sav. Striker 17 HH as a walking prairie dogger (8T 18" barrel). Can't decide if I oughtta' try the 20 or 25 V-max 1st (also have a BUNCH of 25 Horn. HP's too). Which would be your 1st choice and why y'all?
BTW picked up a 2.5-8X Nikon LER scope while I still could recently and gonna try it some before I use a riflescope just to see if it's good for this PD shooting-style app.

Handgun with 18 " barrel ? Is that not illegal ? Thought handgun barrels could not be longer than 16". Bill K |

With that 8 twist you might have to shoot them all to see what it will like. I have 9 and 10 twist and never ever shot any 25s. The 20s just seem to be the right size for that case. I’ve shot the 15.5s along side the 20s and they did good but not sure about longer ranges with the 15.5s. Tried the 17 gr vmax out for a test only and they went over 4K but still like the 20s better. Did I mention that like the 20 grain bullets in the HH/AH

Thks. guys!! good info. Forgot I have 200 17 grainers too. May try them as well don't have a clue what I'd get for velocity--but could be fun.

Hey Aaron, I'm not sure your "reasonable range" is the same as most others--remember I've seen you shoot before. How far out were you shooting them?

Yeah--that's about what I was thinking

My CZ 17 HH prefers 20 grainers but my 15" Contender likes the 25 vmax and hps. Always interesting and sometimes make you scratch your head. (both 9 twist btw)

My CZ 17HH loves the 15.5 NTX.. Accurate and destructive on critters. Bill K

Interesting--good info-thks guys. BTW that 8T barrel was pulled from a 722 I never used--figured why not put it to use. Seems the faster twists often provide for better terminal effect.

Well....
Sounds like fun Steve. As the others have said I would definitely try em all
I shoot a 17 Ackley Bee that doesn’t have much more for a barrel than what you are proposing (20”)and the 20 V-Max amazed me with it accuracy but man o man with that twist I would love to see the gore factor of that 25 V-Max,I bet while a little slower you will still be impressed at “reasonable ranges” Matt
