Hal,
this Winchester M70 is a rifle I built, set-up as a single shot, and is now chambered in 30-284.... |

Heck of a shot! A yote with that little amount of hair would be froze in a week up here, with the weather we're having.

Matt,
yes, this rifle WAS chambered in my 300 Jr... here is a little more information on my 30-284... I started with the best brass I could find - Lapua 6.5-284. I made a tapered neck expanding mandrel and necked the 6.5 brass up to .30 caliber... I use Redding's 3 dies set for loading... Here is a 308 Winchester on the left for comparison, a 30-284 center and then a 30-06 Ackley Improved... The 30-284 is loaded with Hornady's 155 gr. A-MAX and the 30-06 Ackley is loaded with Hornady's 208 gr. A-MAX... Here are the loads for both cartridges: ***30-284*** CASE: Lapua 6.5-284 brass necked to .30 caliber / Match prepped... PRIMER: Winchester WLRM... POWDER: Hodgdon 414 / 62.0 gr... BULLET: Hornady 155 gr. A-MAX / bullet seated .005 into lands... VELOCITY: 3,400 fps... COMMENTS: A "standard" primer dropped velocity 72 fps. when compared to the magnum primer, now used in the load... ***30-06 Ackley Improved*** CASE: Lapua 30-06 / Match prepped / fireformed in custom barrel and chamber... PRIMER: Federal 210 Match... POWDER: IMR-4350 / 55.2 gr... BULLET: Hornady 208 gr. A-MAX / seated .009 into lands... VELOCITY: 2,700 fps. from 30" barrel... COMMENTS: This load information came from the customer I built this 30-06 Ackley Improved for.... Neither load listed should be shot in any other rifle or handgun chambered in these calibers, without first dropping the listed powder charge by 10% |

Very cool David!!!
I remember a fellow at the VHA jamboree who used a .30-284 to win that match a few times.I think the .284 case is great no matter what caliber it is.
I'm thinking I need to rebarrel a .22-250 I have to a .25-284 soon.I already have a big 6-284 and a 6.5WSM,I think I need to split the difference. Greg Tannel is also building an XP-100 for me in straight .284Win.Love to see your pics thanks for posting. I think I need to try that 155 A-Max in my 300RSAUM Sendero if I can find any. Matt
