Thanks for all the replies. Looks like a 1/10 twist to shoot 30gr Golds and Berger HPBT match bullets would be an expensive lesson bordering on stupidity.

You could always buy the barrel if its a great deal and pick a shorter bullet if you try the 30's and they don't work. Which they likely won't.
On the flip side, you won't lose anything in performance with a 25 grain HP at normal shooting ranges. -BCB

I guess....
A lot depends on the cartridge you will be using.
I have shot the 30 Gold at 1000yd paper and steel targets from an 18" 10 twist XP-100 chambered in 17PPC with great results,of course energy is down to 120ftlbs.Of course the Wyoming altitude helped a bit.I would buy the 10 twist for the quality and good price and build a 17 KillerBee to use with 20V-Max'sThen I would buy a 9 twist and shoot any of the 30's out of a 17-204 Matt

No matter what twist I go with my intention would be to shoot 30gr bullets out of case with capacity nearly identical to a 17P or just go with a .17/.204. i own a reamer that is nearly identical to a .17P.
Since I am up in Canada getting barrels is a bit of a hassle. A new Lilja, to my door, is going to run me 550-600, Shilen about 550, and Pacnor slightly less. The Krieger that a gent has is priced 325.00 and maybe I could get it for a bit less. |

1/10 twist and .172 30 gr bullets
I have a 17 fireball cooper 1/10 twist and the 30gr kindler gold bullets keyhole at 25 yards. Shoots all 20gr and 25gr fine.
