Default 20 Nosler new build

Started this build in 2017 right after Nosler announced the 20 Nosler. Then they didn't go forward with it after posted SAAMI specs. Nosler rep told me they rushed it so people didn't wildcat the 22 Nosler and mess up their plans. Who knows, all I know been a long time coming.

Bob Green sent the rifle back to me last month and as usual he does first cabin work. Real pleasure to work with on a build. This is my 5th rifle he's built and all are shooters.

Thought the case capacity would lend itself to great performance with the 50 gr Bergers then came the 55 gr Bergers even better.

Cooper 21 action from a 204 Ruger I have shoots 1/4" MOA in 204 very accurate Cooper
PacNor 3 groove 9 twist barrel 24" has the same contour as Wilson barrel on Cooper
55 gr Berger VLD's

Little disappointed with the speeds I found although still working on it. No where near case capacity and reach pressure signs. Still looking at different powders but these are what I have today.

Varget 3,550 fps 8.6 SD
H 4895 3525 fps 10.2 SD
IMR 4064 3575 fps 8.4 SD
N- 203B 3540 fps 10.6 SD
All powders shoot under 1/2" MOA several 5 shot groups were 1/4" so looks like I'll have a 3,500 fps prairie dog shooter good to 500 yds.

Any suggestion for powder would be appreciated. ?This is my first build that I had to work on loads with no load data to start with so took a little more time than I imagined.

Shooting the Berger 55's in a case that size those velocities are pretty good.

Running it through QL, across the board, you're 200 fps faster then their projections using SAAMI pressure with those same powders.

Even though it's not apples to apples, but for comparison, if you look at Berger's manual they show the fastest 204 Ruger loads almost 350fps slower than you're getting and Berger was using a 26 barrel in their 204 Ruger data to your 24.

Leopold Scopes, Forester reloading equipment and Victorianox knives.

I video recorded all of my Highpower Rifle matches. Pretty soon I am going to watch them all in reverse order so that I can watch those F Class guys GO HOME and leave us alone so that we can shoot Highpower Rifle.

Thought he retired, must not have. He did a rifle for me a few years back, super fine job and a good man to deal with.

Default Curious ....

Was wondering if you plan on testing any of the 40 grain class bullets.
I think you may be pleasantly surprised. Of course the b.c. of the 55 is much better and you will be jumping to the lands a bit, the 40s are certainly capable of awesome kills on pd’s at 500 yards and beyond. Your 204 can do it too, just thinking out loud. Boy do I wish Hornady or Sierra would make a poly tipped bullet about 48-50 grains. For extended dispatching of little varmints I love the V-Max and BK.

Bob Green dropped out during Covid but is back in the game.
I probably won't try 40's because I have 20-223 AI set up for them. The reamed I used had a really long throat so would really have long jump for 39's and 40's

I don't have quick load to see what it shows. Thanks for the info

I would have thought that being the 20 Nosler case having the pretty much the same capacity as the BR case you would have gotten close to what they will run a 55.
Maybe try something slower like RL16, H4350 etc I know guys have luck in the 20-250 case with it.
My 20BRA loves RL15 wouldn't go anywhere with RL16 but maybe in the longer skinnier case it might.
Sounds like it shoots though.
