Muzzle Brake and Impact difference

Wow !
I picked up a cheap muzzle brake, for my new Howa Mini, in 223. Pencil thin barrel, came threaded. So why not try ?

Sighted in and everything looked good at a hundred yards. My son complained about the loudness, as he was set up on the table next to me.

So I pulled the brake off, and fired a round down at the target. It printed the target at about 7" high. Wow !

Anyone else have that kind of variation?
