Default Butt pad installation

Getting ready to refinish the stock on an old project. The stock had a metal butt plate on it, and I would like to have that replaced with a 1/2 pad when I am done. any suggestions for a gunsmith to install the pad?

I think if you can refinish a stock then you can probably fit a butt pad.

I have fitted a few using just a belt sander mounted upside down in a bench vice to grind to fit. Always better to do before you refinish the stock than after.

I bought a Harbor Freight bench sander years ago for about $60. I've only used it for recoil pads. I've probably fitted a dozen with it. The only problem is that it is another thing to store!
