Default 17 Caliber Vickerman Seating die review

Dayton Machine Shop is making the Vickerman Dies now and offers them in 17 and 20 caliber. I ordered a 17 cal micrometer die and it is hands down the best 17 caliber seating die we have. Dropping the bullet in through the window on 17 & 20 calibers is a game changer.

We have a RCBS Competition Seating die with a window in 20 caliber and this Vickerman is a much nicer die. We have Redding and Forster Comp seating dies too, but they don’t have the window in them. The micrometer is SMOOTH and it is highly legible, unlike the RCBS micrometer seating dies on both accounts.

I have a half dozen Vickerman seating dies made in Ellensburg and Moses Lake and never bothered to look at the current ones because I thought I didn’t need anything I didn’t already have. We needed a shell holder and didn’t have time to scrounge one up so I visited their website and when I saw they offered dies in 17 and 20 caliber decided I had to try one. I’m glad I did.
