Gentlemen,
You would think a .243 would be an easy rifle to get MOA or sub-MOA with bullets from 55 grain to 100, you're wrong!! I've had 2 scopes on it to get decent eye relief, it currently has a Leo. HD5 3x10 in offset mounts. I did get a 3 shot group but at 50 yards. It does have the 3-screw trigger, which now is nice. I don't know what brand of barrel it carries but I'm just going to try to slug it out to make it shoot.
Any firsthand information you pass on can reduce my number of lashes!!!!!
Thanks to all.

EABco and JARD have triggers for them. I have heard from friends that both are excellent. The NO 1 has a reputation for every once in a while being easy to get to shoot well, but more often they take a lot of messing around with. I've never had one and that is probably why.

I've owned a bunch of No. 1's in my lifetime, and I still have a few less than a bunch. Only one of the entire herd was smarter than I was.

Some of them took some coaching, but they all eventually became good shooters. For me, that's part of the fun. Plus about 95% of them are eye poppers to look at.

My 1B had a awful trigger. I installed a speed hammer, "Think Moyer", back in the 80's. It's pretty nice .

Eye relief has always been an issue in Ruger No. 1's. Look for Ruger extended rings, usually a pair works best. Then look for a scope with Eye relief of 4 inches or more.

I have a Swarovski Z3 3 to 10 on my 7 x 57. it has good eye relief in the lower powers but above 6 the relief gets shorter.

I recently picked a 45/70 with a Redfield 1x-4x scope with standard rings. 1x good relief, 4X eye relief issues. I an going pick up some extend rings for this gun and hope that solves the problem.

Default Ruger #1

If anyone needs extended Ruger rings, let me know. I am sure I have at least one set that is not in use.

Gentlemen,
I do have the extended rings and decent eye relief.
I also have a Kepplinger trigger but decided not to install it yet as my 3-screw trigger is pretty nice. I don't know if it's a Douglas or Wilson barrel. That's a big unknown. I'm just going to try different test loads until I find a few that fit what I'm looking for ---Deer -ground hogs- and coyotes.
I much appreciate any firsthand help, experience anyone can pass along. Especially if you happen to have a No.1a in .243.
My thanks to all.
