I want a 20 VT or 221 Fireball on a repeating action which is not oversized. I had a Remington 700 LVSF and CZ 527 in 221 Fireball. I hated both actions but loved the cartridge. No matter what you do with the Remington 700 you end with a gun which weighs too much for the cartridge. Plus my rifle would not eject properly, even with the extractor in the relocated position. The action is a medium length action and should stay with those cartridges. The CZ 527 was small enough, but I hate the "guppy belly" magazine. I know the magazine can be modified, but they only guarantee it to hold 2 rounds. Plus I am not a fan of the bolt throw and mini mauser extractor. Give me a push feed, staggered magazine, with a hinged floor plate which weighs around 6.5 pounds and I will call it good.

Default Difference

The 222mag bolt will travel approximately .250 further backwards to allow the longer case to clear. Shouldn't affect extraction but the bolt stop is different.

Stupidity on my part.
Should have kept both. I have since had two 20 vt made. One a REM 700 that was a factory 17 fb, and a REM XR 100 single shot that was a 223. Had to put in a Sako extractor to make the latter work properly.
Both of these are very accurate. The XR 100 gets lots of use on PDs.

Question Chuck..........

I know that the L46 actions compensated for the longer 222Mag........but I've not seen any changes for the L461/AI series actions.

But.....I've been off a "few" times before.

Thanks Chuck. I will keep my search for the 222 Rem models.

LOL- yes. We haven't shot rats for about 5 years now, maybe it's time to head back out there. Got lots of 40 gr. loaded up with AA2230. Puts them in around .3" @ 100 meters.
