Accurate 2700
Gents,
I just got a pound container of AA 2700,and wondering if anyone uses or has used it in a 22-250 Remington? The rifle is new to me . It’s a Ruger No.1V, 24” barrel,14 twist. I plan to use 45 to 55 grain bullets mostly for groundhogs and coyotes. Thank you in advance for your consideration. Semper Fi Soup |

I have never tried it in any of my 22-250;s, but if you go to Hornadys Reloading data site, they list it and give start and max loads to work with.

It’s good stuff...
Funny how similar powders work well in the 17 Rem and 22-250.Like WW760 and H414 work well in both,AA2700 is a tad slower but should be very nice in your 22-250.

I have used it in 22-250AI with 55 gr bullets with good success. Al Nyhus uses it in a 220 Swift AI and says it is relatively easy on barrels. I'm playing with it in a 6-250AI these days but that is backburner to getting ready for an upcoming PD shoot with my 2 sons. Dad is providing everything of course.

Back in my heavy small caliber addition days, I bought 8 lbs of 2700 thinking it would be nice to try in a 17 Rem Imp (that I never did build). After experimenting with it in the 17 Rem, it seemed like it was probably going to be slower burning than I thought.
I have used it in larger calibers but thanks to this thread, I have some new ideas for its use.

2700
It works well in the 220 swift, so I’d think it would also in the 22/250.

In anything where it's appropriate, 2700 has always worked well for me. In big cases (Swift, bigger .17's, 243 Ackley's, etc.) the reduced carbon build up in the throat is very noticeable compared to other powders. In my standard 22-250's, it's never been that great for accuracy...a bit too slow, likely.
Like everything in life, just try it and see how it works. |
