Default Hello from Central AZ.

Hi All,
I've been lurking here for a bit and learning a lot. Thanks for all of the great info!
I've been calling predators for years and shooting them with a .22-250 mostly. Loaded just about every bullet made for the 250 and finally realized there just isn't a fur friendly load for that cal. on a consistant basis. Love the caliber though! So, I recently had a 17FB built because of the great info on this site and WOW... I'm addicted. About an hour ago I ordered some boxes of Chan Nagel's 25grn T-000s and can't wait to load them up. What a great guy to speak with! Thanks to all of you who posted his info so us 17 cal newbies can get off to the right start.

Dean

Howdy from Montana! I lived in Arizona a bit as a kid and still get there as much as possible.....in the winter .
Welcome to Saubier.com. Do ya have any .20's....yet?
These things er like potato chips and ya might just find you'd like another. Until then with a .22-250 and a .17 Fireball you are well armed as is .
Chan's bullets are great and he's a fine individual as well!! You're off to a great start.

Welcome to the madness.
That FB should be perfect for those AZ sized Coyotes.
I grew up in So. NV and did allot of work in AZ as an apprentice Carpenter.
Had a girlfriend for a few years that tended bar on "Whisky Row" in Prescott, but that's another story best left untold.
We killed allot of Coyotes and Cats in the Yarnell/ Baghdad area. Even shot my first and last Ring Tailed Cat there back in the early 70's. Unfortunately I was shooting a two-fiddy back then too, so he didn't fare to well.

Anyhoooo, glad ya found us and my condolences to your wallet.
Charlie

PS,,, Keep in mind, we like pix.

Thanks for the warm welcomes guys!

Doug,
No .20 cals...yet. I'm interested though. Not too sure how fur friendly they are (?) and I'm tired of sewing or worse.

Charlie,
I live in Prescott Valley and get over to Whiskey Row fairly often to eat and socialize. There was a fire there about a week or so ago... the Bird Cage and two adjacent businesses were total loses. The Bird Cage was there for many years. Maybe you remember it? Neat old bar. It was on the west side of the square on Montezuma St. along the original row. Fortunately it was'nt worse. I do quite a bit of calling/hunting in the Bagdad area. Not what it used to be for deer but still great predator calling.

I have been shooting the FB for just a short time now. Started it out on 25grn v-maxes over 17.7 grains of benchmark and br-4 primers. I am pleased with the accuracy of this initial load and plan to work up from there slowly and see if I can improve it some. Very anxious to give the Nagels a try! P-dog season opens June 15th here so I want to be ready to go before then.

Dean

I lived in Prescott too back in the early 60's, out towards Thumb Butte, I also did a lot of calling back then. Atkinson and Marquart Rifles were in Prescott then and unbeknownst to me were doing .17 calibers way before I fell in love with em, some a the first.
I joined the Marine Corps outta Prescott in 66. What I remember best were the Green Chile Burros Enchilada style at the El Charro restaurant, I'm sure it's no longer there as they musta gone broke when I left the area. I ate there on my last night of leave before staging over to Westpac in 1967, I thought about that meal a lot over the next couple a years while eating C's smothered with Tabasco (not quite the same level a chow as anyone that's lived on C's for a while can tell ya ).
I also hung on Whiskey Row even though I was to young to drink and chase the ladies, or so they said . Ah the memories of a squandered youth .

P.S.
We'll help ya with your .20 caliber void before to long here. Ever helpful, that's our motto.

Welcome to the forum. You are going to love the Fireball, outstanding gopher/PDog round that works great on yotes too. Just wish we could get Nagel's bullets up here but the Vmaxs and Bergers work just fine so life is good.

It is very easy to get addicted to the smaller rounds like, 22 Hornet, 204, 17 FB. Once you get one, they start to multiply in the safe all by themselves.
