A prairie dog pup weighs around 6 to 8 Oz and measures about 2 1/2 X 5 inches per my fishing delier scale . The .17 WSM round should be a handy 225-250 yard p dog pup shooter that is if one can get a rifle that will shoot 3/4 inch 100 Yd five shot groups off a bench rest. I like the idea of a low muzzle blast ,low recoil rifle but unless Winchester uses fine quality controll in making the cartridge it will be worthless for small varmint shooting but it could be ok for jackrabbits and fox size critters. Im a 17 Cal fan and have accurate 17 HM2, 17 HMR, 17 Fireball, and 17 Rem rifles with a 17 Hornet to be may next to get rifle. But Im going to hold back on getting a 17 WSM untill some other brands of rifles are available and read that they are accurate.
