Default Powder scale

I’m looking to purchase a small but accurate powder scale to fit in my reloading tool box. I’m planning a trip to South Dakota with my son to enjoy some shooting at Pd’s. Anyone here have any recommendations and goods and bads to look out for when making my choice. Thanks for your opinions fellas.

Quick after thought I’m in Mystic Ct planning to drive out. Does anyone have any better ideas as to where I should go possibly shorten my drive. Thanks

Default Scale/PDs

I don’t have a scale for sale
I’ve shot PDs more than 20 years, and never loaded a round in the field, or in evening of hunt.
I prefer to be shooting and do the loading before.
Different strokes, I guess.

I’m not aware of a significant number of PDs East of about central South Dakota.

Well figuring since I have an 1800 mile trip one way that I’ll bring my gear with me for my week of shooting with my son. Rather than get caught short.

depending on the powder you're using you might just consider getting a Harrells powder measurer. I shoot mostly 17AH and with 1680 never weigh the loads.

I second that.......no need to weigh PD loads.

Any good powder measure should do it. All my PD loads are done on a Dillion 550....with ball or short stick powders.

Load them up before the trip and bring enough. The winds are usually so high that a scale would be useless. I have brought 350-500 rounds per day, depending on the calibers, and change rifles and calibers so you can let them cool off.

Consider the fact that the OP does not have and can't have all the ammo that some have, yet wants to go on a hunt and take his son/family, so his option is to reload in the field or somewhere to enjoy and stay longer.
Not everyone has the funds, that other do.. yet they like and enjoy shooting small critters, as much as they can, when and how they can.

For the OP, get a decent reloading set up and even if it is slower, but will work, a good digital scale to weigh powder and reload where you plan to do so.
Frankfort Arsenal and others have some good one's and they are not real expensive and will do a good job for you. Bill K

( Hope you have a good trip and fun, and remember post a few photo's of the trip, many of us like to see such.. )
