Unhappy WTB-.243 Bolt

Folks ,
This is a sad tail . A friend of mine passed away and left me a "Tradewinds " .243 Winchester rifle in very nice ship . BUT he had removed the bolt and magazine for safety reasons that aren't going to be discussed .

He used the rifle when we deer hunted in Pennsylvania .
His wife has MS and no idea where to look or where it could be .

If anyone can point me in the right direction to find these items I'd appreciate it .

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration .
Please stay safe and healthy '

These were made a long time ago, so my memory may be faulty, but I think they were made on a rather unique action by Krico of Germany. If that's correct, I don't think they sold many and I suspect parts are very scarce.

If my memory serves me, some Tradewinds may have been Mausers from Husqvarna. The small ring may have been the HVA action. I know nothing about the large ring Huskys.
It's a triple tale here. 1. The reason he removed and hid the bolt. 2. The fact the action/rifle is disabled without the bolt, and 3. When the bolt is eventually discovered, it will be an orphaned part without a home. It's probably rat-holed away in the top/bottom/back of some drawer or cabinet. Good luck! J.

Just a thought here... Check the attic, possibly under insulation. Also, old tobacco or coffee cans. The bolt is there you just have to find his secret hiding place. I remove my bolts from rifles even the ones in the gunsafes. I store the bolts separately so if stolen the theft will get caught looking for bolts. Good luck.

Default If you can’t find his hiding spot...

I would try Numerich Arms, maybe someone at Brownells could help as well.
Good luck with your quest.Im sorry for the loss of your friend as well.

Looking up Tradewinds on Gunbroker, I see a catalog or two. Tradewinds did import Husqvarna rifles, but in long action calibers and these do not have removable magazines. The catalogs show the short action calibers were in a completely different action with removable magazines and I think these were mfg'd. by Krico. Looking at the pictures, you can readily tell which you have.

Default Bolt

IF you find a bolt, there may be head space issues. You’d be far better off finding the original. Good luck.

Default Tradewinds Husky help

Posting a couple pictures of the top and bottom of the action, would really help identifying the gun and possible parts sources.

Thumbs up Krico

Thank you to everyone for taking the time to read my post and . actually suppling good answers .
My Buddy always thought is was a Husqvarna , I didn't argue but I knew it wasn't . I do believe it is a Krico -Trade Winds had made in Germany .
So now I've got a .243 minus bolt and magazine ! But what I'll never forget is the great times and many laughs we had together .

It's a real shame he just couldn't become a friend of Bill W .

Stay safe stay healthy '
Thank you
