Default Primer packaging

How were primers packaged before there were plastic trays? I have some going back to the '60s but none older?

The first I ever got in 1958 were in wood trays

each row was cut in the wood just wide enough to

hold them on edge in rows of ten, seems like they had a cardboard end.

I have maybe 10 or 20 I inherited from a late shooting buddy

Sane with me back in the fifties. Wood tray, primers set side by side in rows.
Others had cardboard trays, then as we see today, they started going to plastic trays.

Wood then cardboard then plastic is how I remember the progression.
