Default Dumb? Question:

George, concerning seating depth: If you happen to be using a bullet that is too short to touch the lands, are you better off seating to a certain depth and gradually moving out, or vice versa? I've been seating most of them so that they're barely in the case -- 1/16 inch or so, and doing my testing at that depth without varying much at all. Is there something to be gained by deeper seating?

Also, my shooting partner likes to seat bullets out to a point where they're being pushed back .030 - 040 on closing. Is that a wise practice? I never could see much sense to it myself.

It seems the days of old we pushed bullets back when chambering with light neck tension, with all the rave about bt's now most all are jumping by varying amounts. I guess its all according to what you would call jam. but it seems most are .012- .030 off lands, That being said I have heard from customers that are talking double that but like I said all according to how you get jam... also 1/16 in case wouldn't really bother me unless I was in the field. also more in case increases neck tension..
