Hi Wally,
These ones are 450s. Fired 25 with Federal primers today. All fired. I’d previously used CCI 400 and Rem 7 1/2 without problems, so don’t think the spring is too weak. Thanks for all replies. Ken.

I have never had a 450 fail to fire, and have used a bunch of them.

As IF .005" makes much difference! Decent firing pin and spring would never notice the difference.

I have had real good performance out of CCI primers for many years. They are my go to primer for hunting rifle loads using the CCI 250 and varmint loads using the CCI 200. For small rifle and small pistol I have always used Federal just because that is that was easy to get a quite a bit cheaper.
The one place CCI 250 do NOT work well is in large capacity Magnum cases. 7/300 RUM, 378 Weatherby, 375 Ruger, 460 Weatherby you get a lot of click bangs (delayed ignitions) or outright failures to fire. The Primer goes off but is not hot enough to fully ignite the large powder charge and you end up with a part burnt clump of powder in a dud round. Here the Federal 215 and Win mag primers are king. The Federal is the hottest and the Winchester is close behind. |
