Winchester (maybe USRA) made some model 70's in 22-250, 243, and 308 (IIRC) with 20" barrels when they first came out with a short action. They called them carbines and all were torch throwers.

I've never seen or heard of a Rem 700 with a 16" inch barrel. Some were definitely made with 20" inch barrels over the years along with a few different variations in Model 7's.

Remington offered a Model 700 in .223 with a 16.5" barrel a few years back. It was sold as a SPS Tactical model and had threaded muzzle. Don't believe they ever offered a 22-250 in that barrel length.

Those are the USRA rifles I referred to. i missed the 223 when I mentioned the calibers. Its been quite a few years ago, maybe mid 1980's, and I've slept at least once since then.

Mine was a 22-250 and it was accurate, but it was loud and it threw a 10' flame at daybreak and at dusk when coyote hunting.

BCB, your memory is still working okay.

Savage also made a short action (10,11, or12) 20" heavy barreled tactical model in the mid to late 1990's. I know they were available in 223 and 308 for sure.
