Default Hunter class BR stock

I'm about ready to build a new 20VT and am still deciding on the stock.

It will see more time at the range than the sage rat fields. Normally I would go with a 3 inch benchrest stock, but I'm finding these wide stocks are not comfortable to handle, carry, or get in and out of my safe.

The hunter class BR stock is 2 1/4 inches wide, and would be much more comfortable to handle. With the flat bottom, would it track as well or nearly so as the wider stock when shooting off bags? Am I kidding myself that it would be easier to handle?

I plan to use a BAT SV action or something similar, and use either a heavy or light varmint barrel cut at 22-23 inches long. Would a hunter class BR stock be balanced with those parts? Should the barrel be longer/shorter? Or is it just a bad mix of parts?

I have 2 built on the McM Hunter stock, great stocks for PD'ing. My buddy John has 3 PD guns , built exactly alike to confuse his wife, using them. They ride the bags great and have plenty of forend width.
