Default 17 Ackley Hornet SAKO L46 on Gunbroker

This is mine. I had no idea what to ask for this rifle so I listed it on Gunbroker and will let the bidders tell me what its worth. Take a look and let me know what you think I can answer questions here if you want to ask anything.

It is certainly an interesting piece; it looks like a bench gun in 3/4 scale! How is the trigger pull on it? Maybe one of our resident Sako experts can shed some light on it.

Yes it really is 1 in 12 twist and I haven't shoot it enough to tell you how it shoots. After I got this Family life got very busy and I never spent much time with it. I shot it less than 100 times including some fire forming and it was mostly around an inch no Bug holes. Shot mostly Calhoon double hollow points.

The trigger pull is OK. I do not have a scale but it is heavier and not as good as my CZ527, but my CZ has a 14oz trigger without using the set

Default Sako on GB

I'm curious, I can see why you would have to single load into the chamber, how does it extract the fired case? Will that extractor reliably pull that case out?

As for what it will sell for, this should be interesting. The LOP and the drilled dovetails will be a factor, the nice look and 17AH chambering will certainly generate some interest.

Is the bolt numbered to the action?

My humble opinion is that someone glued or welded in a flat bottom to make a repeater into a single shot, there is no feed ramp ( actually you can see the step from the filler plate and the original feed ramp) and the reason you have to guide ammo to get it into the chamber.

The one in 12 twist looks to be a poor choice by the gunsmith as most bullets I have checked suggest a 1 in 9 or 10 twist. I am no 17 cal expert, I am sure others know what the 1 in 12 is good for bullet wise.

Default action

That is an original Sako L46 singleshot action with correct bottom metal with an extra hole drilled in front of the guard, you could only buy that SS in an action only. Sako hand fits an insert into the bottom, the cutout is actually different(smaller) than a std repeater. Most I've seen, including the one I own, has a number stamped on the bottom of the action and a corresponding one on the insert. These numbers have nothing to do with the serial number and the location is right where the smith engraved his name. I've just never seen one with a hornet bolt face, they usually are .373's for the 222 and 222mag. The rifle looks nice and if the 1-12 will stabilize a 20gr'er it should be fine. As Allen mentioned it's just not the preferred twist for the 17AH.
