Default First hog hunt 03/08/16

Took the day to do some research and relaxation. Went to see what the hog situation was looking like and give the new X-Caliber 3 groove barrel a whirl. First hog was 386yds, dialed up 4 moa, whack, dead hog.

Upon inspection the 75gr AMax @ 3250fps didn't expand, at all. Figured it was a fluke and moved on. Next hog up was at 750yds, dialed up 14.5 MOA, shot and hit 4 feet right. I then dialed in 7.75 MOA left shot and whack, hit the hog. Moved on to the 775yds hog, dialed in the necessary MOA, kept the 7.75 left, shoot and hit the hog center mass. Hog takes off.... I see the 750 hog moving about, dial back, shot and hit him a second time, center mass, then watched him gallop to his hole. So two dead hogs in hand and a third some where else.

The 75gr Amax bullets that last year were blowing hogs up at 500yds+ are penciling through this year. No idea why. The bullets are moving 3250fps, 10% from the 22x47L mark. \

All were male btw.

That looks really nice down there, a lot different than just a bit more up north. I like these reports. I get to experience a bit of varmint hunting through you guys. I don't get to groundhog hunt much anymore.

Leopold Scopes, Forester reloading equipment and Victorianox knives.

I video recorded all of my Highpower Rifle matches. Pretty soon I am going to watch them all in reverse order so that I can watch those F Class guys GO HOME and leave us alone so that we can shoot Highpower Rifle.

Adam, just the self satisfaction of knowing you put all of that gun together. As you have proven with pictures in prior years, no one would argue with you about your ability to shoot.

I am within a week or so of hitting the Sage Rats and a few chucks, then going whole hog one April 1. So much fun and a reason to get up each morning.

Default BR's

I love my 22 Dasher, I also use a 75 Amax, sure makes a good long range Pdog gun. Lot of fun. sgtg out

Default bullets

ab_bentley; You mentioned your 6 BR you used last year, what bullets did you use (for hogs).
I have a 6 Dasher I use the 87 Vmax and they definitely work at long range on Pdogs, but I wanted to try a higher BC bullet (like a 105 Amax) I'm thinking they might be a little hard and pencil through, I would really appreciate your thoughts on this. In advance, Thanks
PS. I also saw with the 22- 75 Amax at 500 plus some penciling through.
Thanks for the hog report, Great pics and shooting, sgtg out

Default Ground hogs

Great shooting Adam,
Curious if these ground hogs were running around with their tails up, usually what I have observed in March? If I'm correct, this would be the time frame that the males are searching for the dens of females and breeding opportunities.
