Default 20 vartarg barrel length

are you finding a big difference in velocity between a 20, 22 and 24" barrel.

I for one feel the package is more important than the velocity.

what does your walking varminter package look like? mine would be a sako A1/ L461 with a 20" ss fluted barrel and a light weight mpi stock in a neutral beige camo stock with a 3x9 Leopold compact scope. in 20 vartarg or 17 fireball/mach 4. this would be my g-hog walking varminter rifle.

I see no reason to go over 24", I've got 25" and 24 and see absolutely no difference

I run a 23 inch and a 18 inch and the eighteen inch is only about 100 fps less. No need to go over 24 inch in the VT's. Bill K

Both of mine are 24”. Never tried shorter, or longer.

My 20VT wears a 24" barrel, and I would not want to change a thing.

I had my 20-222 built with a 26in tube. It burns a small amount more powder than does the VT and I think I'm going to have it chopped back to 24.

These smaller case capacity cartridges don't really need a whole lot of barrel length and they seem to, not only perform very well with a 24in tube but a 24 balances out the rifle really well too. Nothing wrong with going shorter either and if you are running it suppressed, you very well could like it at 20 even better.

I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out why I wanted a finish length of 26 on my 20-222.

Mine is a Cooper M38 Classic, .20 VarTarg, 22-inch barrel. The scope is a Leupold VX-3, 4.5-14x with the varmint reticle.

I have a leather Montana sling on this rifle. It's just about perfect for this small, light rifle.

The Houston warehouse rifle testing repeatedly showed 21 3/4" was the best length for accuracy. My buddy and I are having our new 22-250 barrels finished/threaded at that length.

With a 22-250 that short you are probably leaving a lot of velocity on the table.
