Default Cooper 21 20TAC Stabilizing 40grn?

Anyone shooting a 20 cal Cooper out there that can advise me on stabilizing heavier bullets? I assume my rifle is 1:12. I know some rifles with 1:12 will stabilize a 39BK and 40vmx but what are you Cooper owners seeing?
Just thought I'd ask before I start sending test components thru paper.
Thanks

if your rifling wasn't pulled with a button or is a true 12, you have a chance. Most button bbls seem to come up a bit short of the target tw.
Check it and see. Orrr just shoot to see if there is promise.

My Cooper 204R shoots 39 sbk around 3/4 or a little less. 40 vmax are under an inch. 32 vmax are 3/8 and 32 sbk are one tiny hole. I shoot 32's in mine.

Both my Cooper .20's (204R & 20VT) excell with any of the 32gr bullets, and almost as good with the 39gr SBK. We're talking less than 1/4" here. But it's a bit different for the 40's in both 12T barrels. Good, but not as good as the 32's, so considering the cost now of the 39gr, I just shoot 32 grainers, mostly the Nosler BT or Varmageddon flat base. Those two shoot sub quarter inch in both rifles. But I'll freely admit that the most accurate bullet in either rifle is the 32gr SBK. But due to cost, I save them for when it "really counts", and not on a regular rat shooting basis.

Besides, I really don't shoot paper unless working up or verifying a load, hair is my primary target, and the 32gr bullets really have a great explosive and launch factor on both PD's and ground squirrels. And isn't "visual excitement" really our collective goal?

If your Cooper is a 1/12 twist, just forget using 40 grain bullets, a waste of money.
Stick with the 39 grain, especially the Sierra BK's, they will work just fine, even on fur as compared to any 40 grain bullet.

When you need too, best to re-barrel with a 1/11 twist, then you can go to heavier bullets.
But the 32 & 39 grain bullets work the best in the 20's 95% of the time anyway.
You want so shot heavier bullets go to a larger caliber like 224 or 6mm.

Default Cooper 1:12

Thanks everyone...this helps.
Was hoping ro shoot 39/40's in the Cooper as I shoot 32's in the VT. I think guess I have to just find out and throw a few down range. Even if you could find 39BK's they are just too expensive now for the volume exterminating.
Cheers

Buddy gave me a Handi Rifle in 204 and it keyholed 40s of any stripe. I assume it was 12 twist.
