I think everyone know that wildcats are cool. For "me" when I can get good inexpensive off the shelf dies and brass and factory ammo, so that in a pinch I can get ammo, it's a win win situation. The .17 Remington has Remington, Norma and Nosler that make brass, so you can buy brass that you don't mind loosing, Remington, fantastic brass, Norma and Nosler. I honestly don't quite understand why the 1-9 is not the std twist. Modern bullets are not blowing up with either and I doubt any .17 Rem on the planet is more accurate with a 1-10 than a 1-9.

I agree totally. My 17 Remington L461 has a 1:10 Shilen barrel. It will just barely stabilize 25gr VMAX (around 3/4MAO), whereas the 25HP and 20Vmax will shoot well under 0.5 MOA. I won't even consider any 30gr bullets. When it gets burned out, I will go to a 1:9.

When Remington first offered the 17 Remington in the early 1970's, they all came with 1-10" twist barrels. Within just a couple of years, all Remington factory production had switched to 1-9" twist barrels and it remained that way until they discontinued factory production of all 17 Remington rifles.

I'm guessing that custom barrel makers offer choices between 9 and 10 twist barrels maybe just to suit all potential buyers' needs and desires. I've had several 17 caliber custom rifles built in over the years, and I've always specified 9" twist barrels, and I will continue to do so.

9" twist it is, even the Hornady 15.5 grain NTX bullet is not a short bullet.
