Choices??? CZ 452, 453, 455
I am going to purchase another CZ varmint in 17 HMR. I have owned a couple 452's a few years ago, I really liked them but want opinions on the other models.
So which would you chose and why? 452, 453, or 455. Nelson |

I have 452 and 455...nice to swap barrels on the 455....both are accurate.

I have a 452 sporter and a 453 heavy barrel. The 453 has a single set trigger which is nice on the bench. It's also the only 17hmr I have (annies & CZs) that shoots the 20 grain bullets accurately. I have heard the switch barrel 455 is problematic keeping sighted in after switching barrels. If it were me, I'd look around for a 453 on the used market.

Choices
I have been leaning toward the 452 or 453, The switch barrel feature on the 455 is not something I would do anyway. I just want a nice accurate CZ 17HMR to go with my CZ 527 17 Hornet. Nelson

Nelson,
Good luck!!!, let the addiction begin. Next you'll need one in.....(pick caliber) I have a 452 in .17 HMR and I like it a lot. Touched up the crown with a brass crowning tool and lapping compound and torqued the action screws. Shoots very well. |

I'm still not sure how much it matters, but bear in mind the 455 have only one bolt lug now, versus the 452/453 which follow the more classic BRNO design (with two rear lugs).

I would go with the 452 or 453.

hmm...
I say 453, the trigger difference is worth the $ over the 452's military/Mauser style trigger. I know guys like the 15.00 bandaid fix for the 452 but that's all it is, springs and sleeves to take the slop out of a antiquated design. I do know you don't see many 453's for sale, in fact I'm not sure CZ even makes it now. I have the 452 with the Timney and with the added cost of the trigger I could have had a 453.

I believe you can get any of them to shoot. However, if you want a NEW 452, get one while you can. My understanding is that the 455 trigger is a noticeable improvement straight out of the box. I don't think the 452 trigger is all that bad, though. With the choice of a 'Yo-Dave' trigger kit, ace #144 spring, adjustable sear, or aftermarket triggers...... Well something ought to work there for just about anyone.

I think Whitakers is running a 452 special for under $400 right now.
That would be me preference. |
