I just found 300 pieces of RP .221 brass, so I should have an easy start!

Default 20 Vt

As a 20 cal buff I'll jump in and add my 2 cents. Seems most guys that start shooting the little 20 VT fall in love with her. I went to Montana this summer and took my 20 VT, my 20 SCC, 204 and 20 PPC. Shot over 2200 rounds and came home with 1250 of them my 20 VT and 20 SCC only because I ran out of ammo. My 20 VT was my favorite until I built the 20 SCC but they're both my favorite 20 cal. Next year I'll take a 1000 rounds of each. In all the threads I've read I can't remember anyone disappointed with the 20 VT.

If you can get your work done with 32 grain bullets, do it with a 20 vt. If you would be better served by the performance of 39-40grain bullets then go 20P, 20Tac or my favorite the 204R. If you want to try long range with 20 cal(over 600 yards) 20 BR and 40-55 grain bullets.

being old school I always go with the cheapest means of killing vermin. that would have to be the 20 vt for most critters with the cheapest bullets it will accurately shoot.
I have a little sako L461 in 20 vt and I love the way it shoots and kills way out of proportion to it's case size.

nothing wrong with the 20 practical or 20 tac, I also have a sako 20 tac that likes 39/40 gr bullets almost as much as it likes 32's. I have shot g-hogs, coyotes, coons, and armadillo's with both rifles and they both have the same result, just the 20 vt does it a little cheaper.

neither case is harder to form than the other but I would think 20 vt dies would be a little easier to find. there is good quality brass available for all 3 cartridges.
as to the 204r, to me the throat was a little to long for my taste. similar to a Weatherby chamber and done for the same reasoning in mind, maximize velocity without eating the throat out of the barrel so quickly.

Hornady makes both 20 Tactical and 20 VT dies in their Custom Grade dies, so they should be pretty easy to find.

Whidden dies are also available in those calibers and some other custom one's. And they are very good dies. Bill K

My .204R chamber has a short freebore. Just enough so Hornady factory ammo is .010 off and a tighter neck. RIO may be the one who first ordered the reamer, but I honestly can't recall. All I know is that the 1-10 Shilen barrel puts 5 in 3/8" at 3800 with a 40 Vmax. I have a boatload of 32 grain bullets I don't shoot in my 204, so dies and ordering a barrel from Northland, and a bolthead is what I need to do next.

I'm a novice to the 20VT. Just acquired a used Encore barrel in a very acceptable deal earlier this year and only one p dog trip with it so far. I have purchased other items from the seller before so I wasn't afraid of the barrel having issues, and it doesn't. That said, the seller was going to a 20P for what he perceived was a little extra range with a 40 grain bullet than the 32 grain from the 20VT would offer.

I am shooting a stock Encore and accuracy is quite good. For my intended range (300+/-), the 20VT is going to replace my 204 for 32 grain bullets. I am going to shoot up all my 26 grain VG and 32 grain 204 rounds and convert to 40 grains for a better 204 load. Not sure what I will be doing when the 204 barrels are used up because I have a large supply of 204 brass. Would be hard pressed to go to the 20P even though it would be the route to go with LC brass.

Can't attest to barrel life, but recoil and barrel heating are noticably better with the 20VT than the 204. Still see a use in my prairie dog guns for both calibers, but I generally will have rimfires and larger calibers (220 Swift, 22-250 and/or 6mm Rem) to cover the varying applications.

If I was starting from scratch and was set up for reloading, it would be a hard choice between the 20VT and the 20P. Depending on whether or not I would have a bigger hammer available would dictate whether I would go to the 20P or stick with the 20VT.

I'm just curious as to how one goes about calling a Ghog
