Looking for a RIA 22 TCM review
I need a Rock Island Armory .22 TCM Rifle Review for those of you who have one with a serial number 5,000 or greater.
I've read enough reviews on the ones that were produced before 5000. TIA

Gary what changed at S/N 5000? If they didn't redo the lug design, I wouldn't have a warm fuzzy feeling with it.

They made some changes that should've cracked in the rough bores prior to that serial number break. Maybe there's not many purchased after 5000 Yet?
Thanks Ray. Would that be mostly due to personal safety, accuracy issue or equal concern for both? Or something else? Appreciate it!

Gary my concern is the safety of the single lug design in a modern rifle. The case is a strong case and ''may'' not show any pressure signs till they past the strength of the action.

was hoping to hear from someone with a later rifle.
I think if they done a better job on the bore and chambers then one would still be pretty darn awesome for the guy who wants a reloadable 22 mag style gun. I am checking on the pressure rating concerns through a feller who is in the TCM business. Definitely not worth having one blow up on ya though 22tcm.net http://www.shootingtimes.com/reloading/handload-22-tcm/ The trigger pull from the factory should be 4 to 6 lbs

Gary- spoke to a fella the other day who hunts with two guys that use them. They love the round, but have had problems with the rifles. They both seemed to have problems with the bolts and if I remember correctly feeding problems. They both sent the rifles back to the company for repair, so I doubt I can find out the serial numbers but I can ask.

Yes it'd be very interesting to see if they are pre or post 5k.
When I bought my 1911 target TCM it came without the target rear sight. So I called then sent it back in to have the correct sight install which required milling a notch in the rear of the slide. Ended up having them install a green fiber optic front sight, custom fit VZ grips and had them tune and polish every moving piece. All I can say is the smith I talked to was great and I was extremely please with their customer service.

Barrel issues aside, I'd hesitate to monkey with the RIA rifle mainly because one is hamstrung by the short magazine length. If you're going to shoot Armscor ammo or load to their specs, fine, but for someone who wants to reload and get the best out of what seems to be a good cartridge, loading to a longer OAL would seem to be important.
I'm in the process of setting up a Savage right now as an economy project, reworking a Stevens 200 .223 barrel. Time will tell if this was a good idea or a lot of work for nothing. Thanks for the info that's been posted so far! |

I didn't figure anyone here would have one >5000. Thanks for the good comments!
Maybe I convert a high point to TCM
